BK Owls Basketball Club – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

BK Owls Basketball Club – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Club & Teams

Q: What age groups does BK Owls cater for?

A: We field teams from Under 8s through to Youth League and U20s. Players are placed into age groups based on their year of birth, following Basketball Queensland competition guidelines.

Q: Does BK Owls run trials for team selection?

A: Yes. We hold trials before each season to assess player skills and team dynamics. Our focus is not only on scoring ability, but also on coachability, teamwork, effort and attitude. Trial details are communicated well in advance.

Q: How are teams selected?

A: Teams are selected based on skill level, attitude, coachability and team balance. Our goal is to place players in an environment where they can develop their basketball skills while enjoying the game. Team selections are made by experienced coaches and club officials.

Q: Can my child request to play with a friend?

A: Yes. We understand that playing with friends can make basketball even more enjoyable, particularly for younger players. We do our best to accommodate friend requests in the lower divisions where registrations, available spaces and team balance allow. While we will always consider these requests, they cannot be guaranteed, as our priority is creating balanced teams that provide the best development experience for all players.

Q: What if my child is new to basketball?

A: We welcome players of all skill levels. Whether your child is a complete beginner or has played for years, we aim to provide a positive and supportive environment where they can learn, improve and enjoy basketball.

Q: I'm currently playing for another Spartans Domestic club. How do I transfer to BK Owls?

A: If you're currently registered with another Spartans Domestic club, you'll first need to complete a transfer request before registering with BK Owls.
